Course Objective:
To advance your skills and knowledge of the Position of Director of Photography to a level more consistent with Industry Standards and Protocols.
Course Description:

In this course, you will study the position of the Director of Photography from the perspective of real world industry standards and protocols of filmmaking.
From advancing your abilities with the camera to running a crew, this course will cover: Camera Tech, Image Composition, Proper use of Perspective, Camera Movement Theory, Lighting Techniques, and proper safety techniques. 
You will learn how to work with Producers and Directors to shape a vision as well as with the Crew who will produce that vision. You will also have the opportunity to participate in the shooting and editing of a scene. Most importantly, you will receive this instruction and mentorship from award-winning industry professionals. Guest presenters will include Thad Smith - Director, “Everyman's War” – Best Picture, GI Film Festival 2009, Dan Schaefer – Production Designer/Storyboard Artist, and Crystal Shade - Makeup Department Head. Other presenters TBA.

Prerequisite: Basic nonlinear editing skills
Required Equipment: SD (Standard Definition) or HD (High Definition) Video Camera
Appropriate medium for capture
Nonlinear editing capability at home (for assignments)

About the Instructor:

TJ Civis is an Independent Filmmaker and Director of Photography. His most recent work was on the 35mm World War 2 Drama, “Everyman’s War” – Best Picture, GI Film Festival 2009
